The Journey Together: What to Expect from the Therapy Process

Starting therapy can feel uncertain, especially when you are entrusting someone with your child’s inner world. At Midnight Sun Wellness, we prioritize clarity, collaboration, and relationship. Therapy is not something that happens in isolation for one hour a week; it is a process that supports the child within their whole system.

A Flexible, Thoughtful Approach

Every child is different, and therapy should reflect that. We draw from a range of evidence-based and developmentally appropriate approaches, including:

  • Play- and art-based therapy, supporting children who express themselves through creativity and movement
  • Cognitive and skills-based approaches, helping older children and teens navigate anxious or unhelpful thought patterns
  • Mindfulness and regulation tools, such as breathing, grounding, and body awareness to support nervous system regulation

These tools are chosen intentionally and adjusted as your child grows and their needs change.

Our Collaborative Process

We work alongside families through a clear and supportive framework:

  1. Understanding – Learning your child’s story, strengths, and challenges
  2. Planning – Creating a personalized, strengths-based treatment plan
  3. Connecting – Supporting consistency between therapy, home, and school
  4. Reflecting – Checking in regularly, adjusting goals, and noticing growth

You are never left guessing about what is happening or why.

Supporting the Caregivers Too

Caring for a child who is struggling can feel heavy. We believe caregivers deserve support as well. Our process includes parent guidance, psychoeducation, and coaching to help you respond to your child with confidence and compassion.

When caregivers feel supported, children feel safer. Together, we work to ensure that the skills your child learns in therapy become part of everyday life, strengthening connection and resilience along the way.
Our trained Registered Psychologists and Registered Social Workers can help support you and your child during your time of need.
