Hi!! My name is Mikayla and I am a Mental Health Therapist at Midnight Sun Wellness. I recently completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.
In my therapeutic space, you can speak openly and be heard, notice your experiences and emotions be held with care, and feel free from judgment. I consider myself as a fellow traveller walking alongside you as we explore the topics and themes that matter most to you, and the changes you hope to make in your life. I value the expertise and insights you already have on your experience, knowing that you, and you alone, have lived your unique journey. My work is anchored in a person-centred approach that is strength-based, trauma-informed, and polyvagal-informed. I value collaboration in my work and will tailor my approach based on what is of interest to you. For instance, our work may include solution-focused strategies to reconceptualize your current experience and work towards your goals. Mindfulness-based strategies may also be offered to develop your capacity to rest in a grounded neutral awareness of the present moment and develop avenues to support a healing mind-body connection. These avenues may include:
- Breathwork
- Exploring somatic experiences
- Visual imagery
- Progressive muscle relaxation
- Bilateral stimulation and tapping
I know that searching for a therapist to support your journey can feel daunting. I encourage you to book consultations with therapists that may seem like a fit to you, including a free 15-minute consult with me! In consults, you’re welcome to ask questions about what therapy with that practitioner is like and get a feel for their individual style so you may test the waters before jumping in.
I value honouring and supporting your healing journey, however I can. If, for whatever reason, you (or I) believe we are not a fit to work together, I may provide thoughtful referrals to alternative clinicians who may be a better fit.
Credentials:
I recently completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and am currently practicing as a Mental Health Therapist as I work towards obtaining registration as a Registered Provisional Psychologist. To ensure high standards of care, my work is supervised by my primary supervisor, Corinne Frechette (#4116) and my secondary supervisor, Dr. Sylvia Peske (#3656), who are both Registered Psychologists in Alberta.
Reduced Rate Counselling:
As a Mental Health Therapist at Midnight Sun Wellness, I offer services at a reduced rate of $120 per 50-minute session, making counselling more accessible to those seeking support.
