When is a psychoeducational assessment helpful?

Learning differences don’t always look the way people expect. Many children and adults are highly capable, yet continue to struggle because their brain processes information differently.

Children and adolescents

An assessment may be helpful when they:

Continue to struggle with reading, writing, spelling, or math despite consistent effort

Show inconsistent academic performance

Avoid homework, reading, or writing tasks

Express ideas well verbally but have difficulty demonstrating knowledge in school

What can a psychoeducational assessment identify?

A comprehensive assessment can help identify a range of learning and cognitive differences, including:

Learning disabilities

Assessment for learning disorders affecting reading (dyslexia), writing (dysgraphia), and mathematics (dyscalculia).

ADHD

Comprehensive evaluation of attention, executive functioning, and behavioural patterns associated with ADHD.

Autism screening

When appropriate, screening helps determine whether a more comprehensive Autism Spectrum Disorder assessment should be considered.

Every psychoeducational assessment at Midnight Sun Wellness is personally completed by Rashmani Chakrabarty, Registered Psychologist.

From the initial interview through testing and the feedback session, you’ll work with the same clinician throughout the entire process. This continuity allows for a more complete understanding of each individual and ensures that the person explaining your results is the same person who completed the assessment.

Testing is intentionally scheduled over multiple appointments to reduce fatigue and provide the most accurate picture possible.

The process

What to expect

Most psychoeducational assessments involve 3 to 5 appointments over approximately 4 to 6 weeks. Throughout the process, we’ll explain each step, answer your questions, and ensure you understand both the assessment and its results.

1 Initial contact and questions

Reach out to discuss your concerns. No physician referral is required.

2 Welcome package and fee review

You’ll receive information outlining the assessment process, timelines, fees, and insurance options so you can make an informed decision.

3 Clinical interview

Your psychologist gathers information about educational history, development, medical history, current concerns, and goals.

4 Standardized testing sessions

Testing is completed over multiple appointments to accurately assess learning, thinking, and academic abilities.

5 Comprehensive written report

Following testing, your psychologist analyzes the results and prepares a comprehensive written report.

6 One-hour feedback session

You’ll meet with your psychologist to review the findings, discuss any diagnoses, and receive individualized recommendations for next steps.

A 50% deposit is required to begin, with the remaining balance due prior to receiving the completed report.

Psychoeducational and ADHD assessments are $2,000 CAD. We offer direct billing to many major insurance providers, including:
